Get into the Argentines culture visiting native reservations. Join this tour to the arid lands where there are currently eleven huarpe communities. Then visit La Asuncion, a community open to visitors which still keeps and respects their original traditions and social structure.
Native reservation. Altos Limpios and native community
Early in the morning we will leave northeast 120km on the the way to Lavalle department. There, we’ll visit a Huarpe family who will host us during the day.
Previously, we’ll head towards to the Telteca Natural and Cultural Reserve. Once there, we’ll observe aspects native flora and fauna. The reserve protects autochthon carob tree forests and the bridlife of the area.
A few kilometers forward, we’ll visit the Altos Limpios where we’ll go hiking the dunes from where we’ll get to appreciate this particular landscape. Next, the Native reservation La Asunción will be our next stop, where we’ll visit one of the Huarpe’s families.
They are going to prepare a special lunch for us to taste homemade empanadas, bread, meat and goat cooked in the outside oven. Also, we’ll share a nice day and learn about the family´s recipes and customs
In addition, we will go for a walk inside the community. They will offer us a handcrafts workshop of loom and learn the different techniques used by the community. At the end of the Native reservations tour, you’ll taste “sopaipillas” a typical bread of the region.
Finally, return to Mendoza in the late afternoon.
What do I need to know?
– Special clothing: cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, coat, comfortable clothes and suitable shoes, additional mineral water.
